Archaeology
Artifacts found under a portion of the house that was added approximately during the time of the Revolutionary War are currently being processed. This process includes careful cleaning of the items, identifying them, and cataloging them. Our archeologist is guiding this process. Below are photos of some of the artifacts identified so far. Two old coins dating back to the 1700s were found.
Below on the left is a 1787 Nova Eborac coin obverse and

Below is a photo of the same coins reverse sides.
Glass Marbles
Clay (and stone ?) marbles
Buttons: Glass, metal, shell, wood, and bone
Stoneware fragments: Scratch blue salt-glazed, 1735-1775
While the following finds from the Peter Burr House were from the Civil War period and would not have belonged to the family, they are included here because so many people have an interest in the Civil War period. The house was certainly inhabited during that time.
Civil War Bullet: .58-caliber three ring
Button: Metal Wanamaker & Brown, 1861-1868
Other archaeological items from the 19th century have been identified but are not included here. Many items remain that are being processed. Who knows what we will find next?
The only official dig site so far was under the section of the house added during the time frame of the Revolutionary War after Peter Burr married Jane Calhoun and more children were added to the household. No digging has been done under the original section of the house or in other areas where artifacts will likely be found. As archeological items are found, great care is now being taken to preserve them for generations to come.
