Fund Raising
(See below to contribute)
Reliving History, Inc. is a non-profit organization incorporated for educational purposes. We exist to assure that the Peter Burr property continues to be highly valued by the general public. To support programming for public purposes, fund raising is an important element of our operation.
Our primary focus for 2009 was organization rather than programming and fund raising. With a good foundation in place, it is time to turn the focus to our purpose, our reason for existing.
While the Peter Burr House belongs legally to the Jefferson County Historic Landmarks Commission, that agency is not budgeted to provide the programming. In order for the property to become self-sustaining and able to contribute toward its on preservation and restoration, programming must create reasons for the general public to continually support and protect the.property.
Like other properties on the National Register of Historic Places, the Peter Burr House is protected by federal laws and guidelines and the local government agency charged with knowing those laws and guidelines best is also the agency that owns the house. This is a good thing.
Even so, common sense and long-time experience tells us that laws do not guarantee compliance when some financial motives begins to drive various agendas. The laws are a starting place, but the general public holds the keys to both enforcement and changes in laws. For the ultimate protection of this historic treasure, someone (preferable Reliving History, Inc. at this point) MUST assure that the public treasure is continually treasured by the public.
For this to happen, programming is where the public will receive value.
In addition to delivering programming at the Peter Burr House, we are also trying to move the house into a position to become a hub in the local area for programming-related to the period Peter Burr was in the area, roughly 1750-1800. As we increase understanding and interpretation of the time period, the government-owned property hopefully will automatically be viewed as a logical hub for similar programming.
Our vision is big and the price tag will be both high and also worth it.
For those wishing to invest in our vision of connecting 18th century values and of understanding of the influences that under girded the formation of our nation, then this is an opportunity for you to to support our increased programming for the ca. 1751Peter Burr House. Your contributions of any size will be deeply appreciated.
